At Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, we strive to live out Christ’s command to care for those in need through the Dormition Table Ministry. Inspired by His love and compassion, our parish provides nourishing, home-cooked meals twice a month to those facing food insecurity in Somerville and beyond. Our mission is simple yet profound: to feed the hungry, offer kindness, and bring hope to those who need it most.

How We Serve
The Dormition Table is a labor of love, made possible by the dedication of our parishioners and volunteers who give their time, talent, and treasure. Through this ministry:

We prepare and serve freshly cooked meals twice a month.

We host a special Thanksgiving event, feeding many in need and sharing the warmth of the holiday.

We provide transportation for those unable to reach us, ensuring that everyone has access to a meal and fellowship.

We stock and maintain a food pantry, offering additional support to those struggling with food insecurity.

As we continue to grow, we pray that God will grant us the ability to serve more often and expand our outreach.

The Dormition Table began as a heartfelt initiative led by Joanne and Guy Brassette, whose dedication and vision helped lay the foundation for this vital ministry. With a deep commitment to serving those in need, they worked tirelessly to establish a space where the community could come together to share a meal and experience Christ’s love in action. While their efforts were instrumental in launching the Dormition Table, this ministry thrives today because of the countless volunteers and supporters who continue to give their time, resources, and prayers to sustain and expand its mission.

Donate to Support Our Mission
Your financial contributions help us purchase fresh ingredients, maintain our kitchen, and expand our ability to serve. Every dollar goes directly to feeding those in need. You can donate online or in person at the church.

Join us in preparing and serving meals! Whether you can cook, clean, transport food, or simply offer a warm smile, your help is invaluable. Volunteering is a beautiful way to live out our faith and experience the joy of giving.

Contribute to the Food Pantry
Our pantry is always in need of non-perishable food items such as:

Canned vegetables, beans, and soups

Peanut butter and jelly

Cooking oils and sauces

Donations can be dropped off at the church during office hours or at our designated collection points.

Answering Christ’s Call
The Dormition Table is more than just a soup kitchen—it is an act of faith. When we serve others, we serve Christ Himself. Through this ministry, we follow the example of the Panagia (Theotokos), who always answered God’s call with love and humility.
